5c.Ethical professional enquiry learnt

Professional ethics have evolved from the ways of how organization process and conduct things. professions such as the schools, design industry, hotel and many more they have their own ethical standards that related to individual field.

As a candidate I came across all different types of professional ethics in all sort of working field and most of the time they turn out to be a code of conduct whereby they are rules you got to comply with and majority of the time failure to do so would lead to a disciplinary action or dismissal

As a candidate coming across the professional ethics of a private butler but having the eye as a designer in the Victorian Gothic piece of art work created by Sir Gilbert Scott St Pancras renaissance hotel my code of conducts which were set out in contract on a variety of paper whereby I had to fill and sign. This action showed that the hotel had a reputation, which all staff had to comply with within the company as we as individuals portray the company as guest or clients walk into this hotel.

I would say I tend to use work personal ethics in a professional and non professional situation or better yet environment and acting suitably in the professional environment which has made me play a great part of the hotel and showed that am as well valued as the hotel and as a candidate I represent what the hotels says.

In my written code of conduct I stated that Appearance is necessary not to casual but smart with a top five star finishing touch that represents the hotel in a whole. Its just prohibited to wear in appropriate clothing prior to the hotel standards as we are trying to be the best we can and apply the five star concept which we have to adhere to regardless. As first impression counts when interacting with customers and clients.

Working as a private butler in the eccentric glorious hotel I came across professional ethic here. These have mainly made me focus on trustworthiness, smooth running of an event or executive lounge and made me professional by they way I deliver.

Working for St Pancras International hotel I have applied certain rules to my self as an individual, certain posture, language, confidentiality between I and client and delivery of service has made me as a person implied luxury to lifestyle.

Up 4 Hire live ( BBC 3 SHOW) Youth Unemployement

Dear Candidates or Candidates of the year i just had to share something new which i learnt over this week and this was due to an email i got having an invitation from BBC 3 via Middlesex University.

I was part of the audience when i got this magnificent invitation. Sometimes as students we got to keep on track whats going on in the outside world and we have to learn and know whats new out there.
Tonight i can actually say that i have learnt something new on the 17th of this month 2011.
I basically found another way or an interesting way of getting myself known to an employer since its very
competitive out there to get a job or work experience or internship. by watching these series as a student you will gain knowledge of how to up things up and set your game right and keep fighting until something comes up.

there were questions like are young people lazy to work?

or do they just want to feed from their parents only?

or are they bothered with the job because its not what they are looking for?

Kindly have a look at the link given and share your thoughts what you think about todays employment and young people even employers who might think we don't fit in or qualify or overly qualify for a job.

Comments Comments Comments

liam found a very good site which enables ( http://tmcofliam.blogspot.com/ ) you to track down comments on certain comments made in which individuals has done on their blogs i reckon it was good but on the other hand i thought to myself wouldn't it make me lazy in not following up on my BAPP blog? and also i wouldn't be able to reflect on certain issues i have come across. so in this case or issue am beginning to think if this site is good enough for me as a student to keep or not ( http://co.mments.com/ )

5B Going back to the points given at 5A (code of practice/ regulations)

As candidates we ought to make code of ethics meaningful and effective.
Vital for codes of ethics to have widespread staff involvement and for staff to be assigned to mange the operation, updating and disciplinary processes.

Some Code of ethics is widely regarded as being effective, so the question here is what do we need to do thoroughly to let it take place.
Code of ethics are primilarly designed to convince the customers that the company is a trust worthy organization and the company is trying its up most best to deliver its best as possible especially in delivering a five star service.

Secondly codes are seen by staff as top management service to comply with and follow the rules given. Its also design to stop theft or misuse of the companies resources and stop and misbehavior.

A code can be a statement of values or it can be statement of ethical issues that staffs are likely to encounter, and the expected behavior of staff when faced with their issues or it can be a combination of both in which is the model that we advocate.
Statement of values as statements like be ethical act with integrity or being honest with customers.

Despite providing specific guidelines on many of the ethical issues with in the industry the code sets out a multitude of exhortations.

I also think the code provides a guideline or at best offers a very general guideline on some of the difficult contentious issues in which we encounter   The code that identifies ethical issues sometimes termed code of conduct is more useful than the values statement. it sets out to identify the issues that an employee might encounter and defines what the organization or profession considers acceptable conduct.

For instance as an employee if you don’t clock in and out you wouldn’t get paid the full amount you have worked for and if you don’t comply with the rules and regulations of grooming you would be dismissed.

On the other hand as guest come into the hotel and they see a certain staff well groomed they are able to tell that they have standards and they are well polished in the chosen field they are in and are able to deliver a five star service Code of ethics that steer up framework in my work place.

5a considering ethics in my place of work

In regards to the statement being made connecting luxury to lifestyle
St Pancras has brought forth a good deal of effort by using the iconic historical gothic building into fashion trend or using parts of the building as patterns to create certain luxurious design in other to grasp people attention and make them buy a certain product.

For instant due to the history of the building and the values of the gothic building despite all of the odds given and negativity,  designers and architects transformed all the negative design into positive by using parts of the building to create nice design for pamphlets, gift bags etc

After its great opening ST PANCRAS Station is set to become an airport-style shopping destination, with brands including Mulberry, Cartier, Smythson and Prada already being linked with the development. Cath Kidston was the first retailer to open her station-based branch yesterday, the Evening Standard reports

The development follows the opening of the five-star chosen flagship Marriott Renaissance Hotel and Searcys Champagne bar in the station - as well as an offering of serviced apartments in the station. I remembered this part during the massive recession there were thousands of champagnes being served and variety of performers were invited and displayed a great deal of show.

Lily cole was used to represent the gothic iconic building despite the odds it was said the building couldn’t deliver and it failed its purposed to serve.

At the end of the result due to its immense beauty a buyer bought this Victorian piece and it was transformed to an awesome beauty.

A designer should not only make things that look good but also be able to help explain the value of what they design in a larger context

Award title proposed

I recently wrote the reason why i chose my award title but i think i havnt given a clear description why i chose it.
looking back at st pancras its self the hotel a short descriptive article said "After years of devoted restoration, the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel is being hailed as London’s most romantic building. Its glorious Gothic Revival metalwork, gold leaf ceilings, hand-stencilled wall designs and a jaw-dropping grand staircase are as dazzling as the day Queen Victoria opened the hotel in 1873. Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott to receive travellers through St Pancras Station, the former Midland Grand Hotel offered its guests a world of grandeur, luxury and fantasy behind its fairytale red façade. Innovations such as ‘ascending rooms’ (elevators) and revolving doors heightened the sense of awe. "

looking back at that statement giving i realised that in the graphic design field we have something called print and print comes in all sorts of forms and shapes and can be delivered in various forms. Scott  designed some nice stencilled piece of work he created this this fantasy and fairytale and with the slogan they use in this day an age i certainly think graphic design played a part in it by bringing luxury into lifestyle

Award Title

I think I have always known what my award title would be from the beginning of this module and due to the change of careers I have had and I have known what area I wish to develop my current knowledge in which is in a five star customer service field.
The award title I seek is BA HONS WORK BASED LEARNING PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE in Design.
The cause for my rationale award title is because my background has always been in design but not only in a design field but a field that involved focusing on the customers needs at all time and making them have a warm welcoming experience.
As a person or a candidate I know am able to contribute to the society by demonstrating proficiency in all core design including presentation, internal external communication with people, meeting schedule and task preparation and exceeding target.
This all came due to the experience of various field I have worked in and grew such as being an event supervisor manager and freelancing as a designer and working as a private butler at a top end hotel (St Pancras Renaissance). I have executed events, worked in executive lounges and delivered a tremendous face-to-face service.

With in the high end various field I have been whereby I gained valued experience, I noticed that the fields have something spectacular about them be it design in terms of service, appearance, communication I have noticed that I played a part in it not just by looking or by starring but getting involved in task aiding creating an experience whereby the guest are filled with so much wonder.

Whatever task am given I tend to find my own style related issue to resolve my questions although in the design world their ain’t no right or wrong answer as long as your able to deliver what’s needed and make the customer happy they will be relieved and good to go and certainly come back again to gain another valuable experience because of the relationship and the experience you created for them to take away at first.
I also chose my award title because I decided working in a graphic design firm won’t be enough for me I needed something more I wanted to engage take part of a role make a qualitative experience on a customers life which I did when I worked in St Pancras Renaissance hotel (known as Marriott hotel) I created and made an experience for the executive lounge guest.

Ever since I worked in St Pancras hotel I was taught a few history. Looking at Scotts work I remembered when google celebrated his 200th. It was an overwhelming feeling for me to see St Pancras published on the google image and I felt that I took part in it.  Scott had taken a great interest in medieval gothic architecture design since his childhood; the revival of the Church of England enabled him to apply this to the design of new churches.

Perfect practice makes perfect and this occurred to me that Scott delivered a phenomenal design which in this decade grabs the attention of many people both outsiders and insiders. And today it’s being used for business to satisfy customers.
And I as a person took part in it by creating the experience to guest five star flagship standards I had to make sure I was ahead of the guest needs and urges. Scott had accelerated his achievement of goals in ways and I could apply that to myself due to the competitions, experience I have attended and gained I had also learned and reached goals, which I never thought, would be useful till today for my own use.
Be it retail in a fashion store, design store, event venue or five star hotel there are different types of design that creates the atmosphere of the stores, shops or venue and in that field which people work in they create an experience for outsiders or the public. I can testify say that am part of those who take part in creating experiences in my chosen field.

Considering all of the above I believe that the award title I seek has solemnly justified by my past experiences, my present and research and for my future aspiration goals.

4c developing inquired questions within my professional community and bloggers

After reading an article again regarding the building its self and Sir Gilbert Scott
I began to wonder if the architect him self was trying to create similar iconic trend in United Kingdom. In which I think he did successfully but each day when passing by this building I wondered why this gothic AROMA in a modern age.

A new set of series question arose when I was thinking and reading the article but I do certainly think it played a part but in this case am wondering what peoples views are on this

  • Did it represent industrial wealth in medieval form?
  •  Why should the iconic building have the right not to exist?
  •  Did it’s purposes failed to serve and deliver?
  •  What are proofs that the building itself faded into fashion?

As human or candidates we hear certain words and we tend not to ponder about it may because we think its just a name given to it or it was classified as that we never think what’s behind the name or anything.

My interest arose more in depth whereby I decided to find out who st pancras was and its meaning or what the history was about it.

I then realized it was a roman orphan who was brought up by his uncle and was executed because he refused to betray his Christian faith. A successor to this shrine was built in the medieval times and still stands in the old churchyard on pancras road behind the station. Although in 1860s it had to be cleared in other to build the new station and the hotel and that’s where the name came into place.

Over the years when the hotel was threatened for demolishment, it was said that the Midland Grand Hotel was “too beautiful and too romantic to survive”. Well accusation was wrong because it has survived for numerous reasons it was believed that due to is beauty the public both upper class, business class and lower class
Would pay for the flats and hotel rooms and its immense views and have inspirations from the huge Victorian iconic gothic building.
The public would have a tale to tell once they have that experience of living in a chosen flagship.

As a candidate I believed this building faded into fashion due to its gothic revival especially the colour of the stone used. Scott was influenced by the use of brick which he had witness first hand on his European travels and which by all means England was being widely transported and produced to all parts of the country by rail so by no means it wasn’t a surprise that the stone and brick work came from the Midlands.

The purposes of the hotel delivered in many occasions firstly gave women power to smoke publicly, it had the first driven water lifts and many more.
I felt that Scott created this enormous staircase whereby a multitude of movies have showcase it in today’s times.

What intrigued me was that the hotel was luxurious and it lavished in everyway, high ceilings, the use of gold leafs used.

There is so much more to it than meets the eye only.

The question i posseses to us as bloggers is that would we have love to know if  this building played a common part to our society and community?

S'I'G special interest group- St Pancras Renaissance

In regards in developing my own “special interest group”. I have currently decided to use my ex co workers St pancras group via my facebook to support my programme  and share the same similar interest .

As my ex co workers most of them have and are still working in the same building professionally and hopefully have a great deal of interest into what I do.

The main thing that bugs me is that why would Sir Gilbert Scott build an extravagant iconic building in the center of London?

What actually possessed him in doing this particular building?

why was it the most successful building of all of his work ?

I was browsing through the net to even have a deeper understanding of the building and I came through a short article that stated the building should not exist.

So this questions comes in place too

Why should the iconic building have the right not to exist ?

And did it’s purposes failed to serve and deliver?

Professional Inquiry 4a

When it comes to design I see it in another whole new level.  Some candidates may see a design and it won’t communicate to them or they see an old design that just won’t grasp their attention be it either young or old.

The world out there is full of immense but open designs whereby when we see a particular design we use one word to sum it all up.
This is where I come in and as a set of questions
My personal Inquiry will be in this Great Midland Grand Hotel currently called known as St Pancras.
Each day I walk by or pass by this glorious gothic building I ever wondered what made It stand out unique and stylish from all the odds.

On the 10th of june 2011 I was employed in this romantic but yet luxurious hotel called St Pancras there and then I knew its value I couldn’t seem detached.

This Historic building this Midland Grand Hotel, the salmon-coloured Gothic fantasia that introduces St Pancras station to London, should not by rights exist so it says but which did . It has spent more of its 127-year life as a problem, a failing building ill-suited to the purposes it was supposed to serve but yet turned out indigenous and independent.

Previously I worked for this company called Marriott at the Grand Midland Hotel known as st pancras.  A lot was said for this building but a few question popped out of my head while knowing and going through the history of this iconic building.

My set of questions comes in place.

·       Who is St Pancras

·       Is the Midland Grand still a spectacular epicenter of a gothic revival building?

·       Who is Sir Gilbert Scott?

·       What are proofs that the building itself faded into fashion?

·       Does the hotel brings Luxury into lifestyle?

·       Was the grand staircase really created for women due to their dresses?

·       Was it an iconic structure built in an modern environment?

·       How is the building beneficial to the community surrounded by it?
